Five easy steps to lusciously healthy hair

Step 1: HAIR FOOD

Your hair, like your body, requires nourishment and care. In order to "feed" your hair properly simply compares it to your body. You know that fatty fried foods are bad for your figure and health; they're bad for your hair too. A balanced diet is the answer to a healthy body, mind and soul, the same goes for your hair.

To have fantastically luscious hair you must eat enough of first class protein such as: eggs, lean meat, fish and tofu. Fresh vegetables and fruits are mandatory for strong and healthy hair (it also clarifies the skin and helps attain a glowing complexion). Food supplements can help too - Yeast tablets and vitamin B taken on a daily basis adds the essential shine to your hair, and strengthen your nails. One cannot emphasise enough the importance of water, an adult should drink at least 1 1/2 liter per

STEP 2 : HAIR PROTECTION

You can't mistreat your hair and then expect it to shine and look good! The problem is a majority of women don't realize just how badly they are treating their hair. Little things like the hair brush you use can really make a difference. Avoid harsh combs and brushes that break brittle hair, also heated appliances (hair dryers, straighteners, curlers…) can deplete the hair's natural moisture if used too often. Also beware of chlorine and sea water, they both dehydrate and split hair.

To safeguard your locks splurge on a few products, we have compiled a little list of your must haves : a wide toothed comb for wet hair, a soft thistle brush, a radial brush if you blow dry or curl your hair, hair conditioner adapted to your hair type and if you do use heated appliances, invest in either heat protective spray or gel that will seal your hair with moisture. Also make sure you diversify your products, as your hair can become immune to certain products.

STEP 3: HAIR REST

The human body requires a certain amount of adrenalin to function, however constant full on stress does no good to the body or hair. Stress is actually the most common cause for dandruff and dull hair. This is due to the fact that stress can constrict the tiny capillaries that feed the hair follicles. As the blood circulation of the scalp becomes poorer, the hair gets duller and eventually dies. A healthy blood circulation is key to lively hair, throughout the day try to take twenty deep breaths , this will not only soothe you but it will also kick start your blood circulation. For your general well being, try to take half an hour a day to relax, just take the phone of the hook, have a warm bath, drink some herbal tea, or simply relish the fact that you are doing absolutely nothing and yet you are doing a lot for your hair and body. However avoid tranquilizers at all costs, as they can damage your skin and hair.

ATTENTION, relaxing is essential but exercising is too! For a healthy body (and full head of hair) you need to get your heart thumping! So take twenty to thirty minutes a day and do a short exercise routine. Our little tip is to go for a fast paced walk before or after work, it's painless but it still does you the world of good!

STEP 4 HAIR PAMPERING

Treat your hair and scalp to a little massage every so often to keep your scalp vigorous and healthy. This can be done by yourself or you can treat yourself to a salon massage. Give hair masks a try, whether they be homemade or pre-packed or if you want to indulge fully go for a full hair mask and massage at the salon. However remember to only use products adapted to your hair type. This pampering should be done once or twice a month, if you over pamper your hair with rich products, it can result in greasy or dry hair.

Also simple pampering includes just letting your hair loose, using palm oil once every two weeks and not over washing it. Your hair needs to get dirty before you wash it otherwise the shampoo has nothing to work on and just makes your hair greasy!

STEP 5: SLEEP

I think our title is self-explanatory! Sleep is essential for your mind, body, soul and hair.  When the body is run-down it obviously takes its toll on the hair. When you are tired the blood is drawn away from the surface of the skin, into deeper arteries (which is why we all look pale when we are tired). As a result the developing roots don't get nourished and can be killed off - the result will be thinning or poor quality hair. There is no replacement for sleep so get snoozing!
